Writing the Room: A World Building Workshop

Writing the Room: A Worldbuilding Workshop

Externalize the internal world of your story.

Place is never just a backdrop. It is a living, breathing force that shapes narrative. This week, we’ll explore how to build evocative story worlds, whether inspired by real places, imagined landscapes, or something in between. We’ll also examine how symbols, motifs, and genre conventions create atmosphere and deepen meaning.

What you’ll do:

  • Define the role of setting in your story—literal, metaphorical, and emotional.

  • Learn how to build immersive, sensory-rich environments.

  • Explore the symbolic language of place, motif, and atmosphere.

  • Establish worldbuilding “rules” for fantasy, horror, and speculative fiction.

Excavating the Wound is a 5-week guided course designed to help writers transform personal experiences into compelling fiction. Through interactive workshops, discussions, and exercises, you'll gain the tools to develop a story with depth, clarity, and emotional resonance. Attend individual sessions or bundle multiple workshops for a deeper dive.

🌀 Register for individual courses at the Live Workshops page
🌀 Register for the full series for $220 (5 workshops for the price of one)
