The Story Within the Story: Scene Construction

The Story Within the Story: Scene Construction

Scene construction, revision, and the art of making moments land.

A story is only as strong as its scenes. In our final session, we’ll zoom in on scene construction, learning how to shape individual beats with clarity, emotion, and narrative weight. We’ll break down compelling scenes from film and literature before applying those techniques to our own work.

What you’ll do:

  • Learn how to craft dynamic scenes with clear beginnings, middles, and ends.

  • Analyze film and literary scenes for structure, tension, and subtext.

  • Experiment with rewriting scenes from different perspectives.

  • Develop strategies for revising and reworking key moments in your story.

Excavating the Wound is a 5-week guided course designed to help writers transform personal experiences into compelling fiction. Through interactive workshops, discussions, and exercises, you'll gain the tools to develop a story with depth, clarity, and emotional resonance. Attend individual sessions or bundle multiple workshops for a deeper dive.
